TO: The Executive Board
World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA)

It is with considerable enthusiasm that I offer New Zealand’s bid to host the WSAVA 2013 Conference in Christchurch, New Zealand. I believe you will find that the information included with this bid demonstrates our commitment to deliver a professional, well-organized scientific meeting in one of the world’s most celebrated travel destinations. Following are descriptions of important organisational aspects for the proposed meeting in Christchurch.

PROPOSED DATES
(Sunday 17 March - Friday 22 March 2013)
Late March is summer in New Zealand, and is typically a period of fine settled weather; the average monthly high temperature for Christchurch in March being 19 degrees Celsius (67 degrees Fahrenheit).

CONFERENCE VENUE
The Christchurch Convention Centre and Town Hall complex has been provisionally booked for the above dates. This facility is the premier conference venue in the South Island of New Zealand. With a comfortable mix of meeting rooms seating up to 2,500 delegates, plus video conferencing links for extension to other conference rooms if required, large plenary sessions as well as smaller concurrent sessions can be accommodated. The Convention Centre complex is in the heart of the city centre with numerous shops, hotels, and attractions all within walking distance. Christchurch has an international airport within 15 minutes’ drive of the Convention Centre served by both domestic and international carriers. Air New Zealand, Qantas Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, Emirates, and others provide direct connections to Christchurch from Australia, Asia, Europe and the US. Connections through Auckland make available an even more extensive list of flight options into New Zealand.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation options are many and varied; click here for more information on available options. The main conference hotels are within 100-300 metres of the conference venue - and in the case of the Crowne Plaza, physically linked by an airbridge. Hotel room prices applicable in November 2008 range from US$108 for a standard room, to US$339 for exclusive suites. There are also low-cost options available through local B&B providers, YMCA and Backpacker facilities.

HOSTING ORGANISATION
The New Zealand WSAVA 2013 bid is submitted by the Companion Animal Society of the New Zealand Veterinary Association (CAS of NZVA), in close cooperation with VetLearn® (NZVA Foundation for Continuing Education Incorporated). VetLearn® is a Professional Conference Organiser and Scientific Publisher, and is proposed as the official PCO for this bid.

ORGANISATIONAL COMMITTEE STRUCTURES
The main organisational committee will be the Steering Committee, on which will sit the WSAVA Executive appointee, the Chairpersons of various subcommittees, PCO representatives (in a non-voting capacity), and other co-opted members as required.

VetLearn® (NZVA Foundation for Continuing Education Incorporated) has agreed to act as the Professional Conference Organiser for WSAVA 2013. They are the leading provider of professional conference organisation, continuing professional development and scientific publishing services for the veterinary profession and related animal health industries in New Zealand.
