TOURING THE CHRISTCHURCH & CANTERBURY REGION
The Canterbury region extends from the Southern Alps - a mountain range running the length of the South Island - to the east coast peninsula where Christchurch City is located.
The Alpine Pacific Triangle encompassing Kaikoura, Hanmer Springs and Waipara can be visited on a round trip day tour from Christchurch, but it is highly recommended that you include one or two nights for a more enjoyable itinerary.
Another popular day trip from Christchurch is to Banks Peninsula to visit the township of Akaroa which was settled by French colonists and is a one hour drive from the city.
